Volcano

 Volcano

Boom! Molten lava spews out of snow caped mountain leaving, a trail of foul-smelling fog up in the night sky. The earth shook, as torrents of golden death descended down the ridgid slopes. The lava are dementors sucking souls out of the vast vegetation turning them nothing but just ash. The cold air heats up rapidly.

The foul smell no turns into a poisonous odour toppling over the creatures. An electric current strikes the misty sky making it look like the veins of the angry gods.

Barely alive I clutch my burnt fingers onto pieces rock leaving, my feet dangling off the edge. As the rock swiftly drifts on the sea of magma, the nauseating air gets worse making my brain lightheaded. “ Help!” I cried. My head gets heavier each second. Am I ever going to be saved I thought to myself?

The Race

 The Race

Russet coloured trees gracefully sway in the gusty autumn wind. While, racers amble in the miry mud, sinking their vivid sneakers. Footprints of determined athletes cover the murky mud turning the ground into chalky waves.

Like paint on the wall, the feet of the runners are stained with dirt. Hurtling over the weather-beaten wooden barrier, contestants ascend down the path jogging on patches of grass and squelchy mud. Masses of people noisily cheer on the racers. While lime coloured lavatories lie behind the loud crowd. Like a compass once milky white ropes navigate the runner’s path to their victory.

4)1 Two facts that I learned from this article is that Auckland Zoo hasn't had a rare herd for 2 decades. The male rhino came from Hamilton Zoo.

3)2 I question that I would like to ask is how many white rhinos are left in the wild?

1)3 Something new I learned from this article is that the rhino calf needs 10 to 12 litres of milk a day.

Haystack

 Haystack

It was a gloomy day in July, the wind was whistling. The Green family was busy doing their usual chores.

‘What happened to the lotto?” inquisitively said Jessica, shovelling the horse’s dung as her luscious strawberry blonde locks whirled in the gusty wind. Mrs Green sighed she knew she had to tell the truth.

“Well, I won it” Mrs Green muttered sadly, looking at tanned skin.

Mrs Green thought back to last week. She was busy feeding the horses hay. Strong gusts of wind pushed their way into the stable through the 90-year-old rusty wooden roof. Moving bits of hay. After that Mrs Green remembered that she had hung her brown bag, which contained the ticket on the crumbly brick wall. Behind the goats. It must have fallen out because of the wind or Billy could ate it she thought. Billy was a white goat with speckles of black and brown. She remembered droplets of water coming off the leaky roof. It was time to go back home. Mrs Green walked past the ivy-covered barn to go home.

As she takes the treacherous trek back home the water droplets drench her already muddy clothes.

By the time she enters home,  rain viscously beats the roof. Soon after getting changed and having dinner Mrs Green sits on a leather couch watching who won the lotto. Number 15  you win 10 million. Mrs Green looked at the journal where she had written her lotto details instead of her ticket as it was upstairs. Mrs Green thought this day would never come. Mrs Green climbed the oak stairs into her bedroom.

Beep! It was late dawn. The rooster was wide awake. Mrs Green made herself a coffee, peeped in into her bag to see if the ticket was there. She felt a shock of lightning in her body. Mrs Green thought to herself I definitely put it there. She bolted through the door, past the chicken coop into the horse’s stable. She searched and searched but there was no sign of the ticket. Dishearten Mrs Green made her way to the chicken coop.

“Mum,” Jessica called out. Jessica’s pale skin blushing. Mrs Green looked back in amazement, the ticket was carefully tucked in the haystack.” Can’t believe you found it,” Mrs Green muttered while hugging Jessica.

“Where is my hat?” yelled Jessica,” Billy”.

Under the Bed

 UNDER THE BED

I wonder what horrors lurk under the bed.

Maybe a dragon or a pirate instead.

ROAR! BANG! CRACK!

Is this monster going to break my back!

I creep down under my bed

Just to see what I dread

All I could see was a few mice

Feasting on some rice

Now I’m not scared of

atrocities that I once feared

Pattern Task Turtle

WALT Recognise and understand equivalent fractions

I made this turtle design using equilateral triangles, Trapeziums and Rhombuses. The shape can be made all out of triangles. So I worked out there are 40 triangles. There are 4 triangles that are already thare so it is 4/40. If you simplified 4/40 it would equal 1/10.

Pattern Task Flower

I made this flower design using trapeziums and a hexagon. First I worked out that the whole shape can be made of trapeziums. Two trapeziums are equal to a hexagon. So I worked out the whole shape is made of 14 trapeziums. Since there are 12 trapeziums in this shape it will make 12/14. If you simplified 12/14 it will equal 6/7.

“I’m going to tell your friends that  you cry when you get told off,”  said Scarlet

Why we should conserve our global resources?

Why we should conserve our global resources?

Imagine a world with no water and no air. Our evergreen earth all barren. Skeletons of dead animals lying on parched soil, our sky covered in a thick black blanket of smoke. I would ‘t be able to survive. You wouldn’t be able to survive. Nor would the whole world be able to survive. Without these resources, we human beings would not be able to thrive.

First paragraph
The world ‘s resources are water, minerals, plants, soil and air. First of all, these help us thrive. Water helps fertilise the soil which makes the minerals in the soil enriched. This helps the trees and plants to grow, animals pollinate the flowers which sometimes makes fruit and vegetables grow, depending on which plant it is. This is what gives nutrients to living beings like us. Fresh air helps living beings like us to stay healthy. Moreover, without these resources, we living beings can’t survive.

Second Idea
Our world resources are at critical;  stake. Trees are being cut down, minerals are being over mined. What are we doing to earth? Without trees, we wouldn’t be able to breathe properly. Planting trees helps us fight against global warming. Overall trees are a benefit to humankind. Yet people cut them down and use that land for agriculture. Every year 3.5 billion to 7 billion trees cut down each year. Without trees, we wouldn’t be able to survive.

Did you know your devices are made out of minerals? These minerals are called 3T minerals; they are tin, tantalum and tungsten; without these, we wouldn’t have devices. Yet they are over mined and used for warfare. So one day there may not be able to produce any devices or new technology will be for the rich. Most people these days use technology for almost everything from school to communicating to the world. Imagine a world where there’s no new Chromebooks, iPads and phones. Without minerals, devices won’t be produced.

Third Idea
What do you think will happen if our global resources are lost? Well, global warming will get worse. Because us humans cut down trees and busing fossil fuels like diesel. Our world is in danger. Without trees, medicine will be lost. Because of our human behaviour. The animals will die out, that means we can’t survive. It's already happening. Bees that pollinate our plants are dying so us humans won’t get the nutrients from fruit and vegetables. That means the chain of life will end. So we must save our global resources.

“We are the last generation with the real opportunity to save the world,” Laurance Overmire once said. Even a little thing you do will make a massive difference to the world. Like turning off the tap while brushing your teeth or picking up rubbish. So we can save our precious world resources.

The Stone Giant

The Stone Giant

In the middle of the well-manicured lawn, a statue plunges out of the earth’s core, making the lush trees behind him quake violently. Out came his rock hard hands Then his aggravated face Up came his moss-covered head tearing a bit of the well-trimmed lawn. The evergreen trees swayed viciously as he pushes himself into the surface. But the orderly terrain pushes him down. Forming a highly noticeable, strict-looking barrier that looks like a grass blanket covering him.

Birds chirp in panic as they fled spruce trees. The elegant palace that towers the stately garden begins to shake chipping the intricate patterns that cover it. The scenic overlook turns into havoc.  RUMBLE! RUMBLE! An almighty bellow erupted form giant’s resistant hand-making a mini earthquake. The windows of the grand palace shake even making some windows shatter into a thousand pieces.

The giant slowly jostles up to ground making him unveil his bulky feet to the world. Chirp! Chirp! The melodious chirps show signs of screaming. ”Help!”, a shrill voice had come from the palace. What was happening?

When my cousin got a scar

When my cousin got a scar

It was a summery day in early March, the sky was a deep blue, the city of Chennai was still bustling as usual. It was a perfect day to go to an Ice themed park. My family just came out of the chilling snow room. My fingers were numb like I had frostbite but I didn’t.

Even though my fingers were still numb, I climbed up the stairs to find myself in a vibrant coloured room filled with 3D pictures. The room was filled with all sorts of pictures from mythical creatures to fruits and vegetables. While I stood staring at the pictures, my cousins rushed across the room taking photos.

I could hear footsteps rapidly coming up the stairs. A family of three had just entered the room, a chubby 5-year-old boy with his parents. Me, my brother and my cousin scurried to the next room. Usually, an energetic girl, my cousin slowly walked to the next room and stood next to the door looking dull

Just in the blink of a second, the chubby boy came running to the room tumbling over my skinny cousin. Making her eyebrow hit a sharp edge of the wall. Blood came pouring out of her skin like it was a river rushing down a slope. Silence filled the room. The only person I could hear was my cousin shedding tears of pain.

My aunty bolted to her aid. “Move away!”, shouted the security guard. My heart sank, was this day going to get any worse, I thought. I galloped to the second car where my cousin was lying. The bleeding had slowed down because of Dettol.
My uncle drove the car as fast as he was allowed. When we reached the first hospital the doctor checked her and said with her shrill voice “She needs stitches but have we don’t have room”. So we all rushed back into the car to go to the children’s hospital.

When we entered the hospital I could smell a strong aroma of medicine covering the rooms. My Aunty and Uncle dashed to the emergency exit. While I sat on cold leather chairs with my grandpa. After some time my cousin came out the happy as ever!
